Websites
How often have you visited a website and left because it was frustrating to
use?
Did it have tiny hard to read text (and lots of it)?
How about ‘pull down menus’ where you have to move the mouse sideways, then
down, then across? Whoops! You’ve lost it – start again!
People have short attention spans whilst browsing on the internet. They need to
find the information they're looking for, rather than some fancy graphical
effect (that more often than not hinders rather than helps).
Your site should be large, clear, and easy to understand. If you’re selling
goods or a service, your website is there to provide information to customers
quickly and clearly. It’s not an advertisement for a computer programmer’s
flashy new technique.
Take another look at this website. Does it look basic? Simple but well
proportioned - but let me assure you it did take quite a bit of time to get it
looking right! Like most things you only really notice it if it doesn't work.
My philosophy is to keep it stylish but functional!
