Don't you hate it when the price isn't marked on a product you're thinking
of buying?
It's hard to give a set figure because computer problems differ so wildly, but
here is a rough idea so you know what to expect:
$30 an hour problem solving / repairing
($20 for the first hour if you drop it off to me rather than me come to you)
$80 to completely clean your software and reinstall Windows back to new
condition
Examples:
Many problems may be 2 hours work. (A straight forward problem may only cost you
$20).
If the computer is very slow and has multiple problems (including viruses etc)
then usually the best solution is to back up your most important data
(documents, email, address book for example), install a clean copy of Windows,
and then re-install your data.
Most likely this will be 3 or 4 hours work but I charge a set fee of $80 for
this. I think you'll find the results are worth it.
I'll let you know if it's going to be more than 4 hours, but I do my best to
limit your cost to 4 hours maximum.
I've seen 'computer fix it' people advertising cheaper charges, but are they
qualified professionals or.. what exactly? Everybody seems to know a cousin
Johnny or a friend of a friend that would be willing to have a go at it, but ask
yourself this - if it was your car that had a faulty engine, who would you let
loose on it?
The number of times I've seen these people make a problem worse is scary.
Actually the number of self proclaimed professionals I've seen completely mess
things up is even more scary.
I tend to be a perfectionist and I don't call it fixed until it really is - plus
I'm always on the lookout for little adjustments that can make your computer
easier to use. I can't help myself!
